It looks like the Death Wish sequels 2-4, which will be released on DVD on February 3rd, will be full-screen with little to nothing in the way of special features. Just FYI ... I'll probably keep watching my old big-box versions of them until something really great comes along.

Update: It has been pointed out to me that the Death Wish sequels were filmed "open matte," which means that the negative is actually TV aspect ratio. So I guess we won't really be missing anything, although they were originally intended to be matted 1.85:1.

Also, something I forgot to include is that King Solomon's Mines and Allan Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold will also be released on DVD on February 3rd. These are supposedly widescreen.

Amazingly enough, some folks thought that the "Howard Dean" credited as playing a policeman in Sam Firstenberg's Ninja III: The Domination is indeed the Democratic frontrunner himself, even after dismissive denials from the Dean camp. Here's the blog link for it, and I have digitized the scene in question here. (I doubt very much this is Howard Dean.) Thanks to John Gorenfeld, who wrote this piece for Salon, for all this.
